After 96 years of living for her family and so many others, Barbara Benson Burt passed away peacefully on July 29, 2015. In 1977 Barbara followed in her mother Clara Matheson Benson's footsteps in becoming the custodian of the Parowan Old Rock Church Museum, which position she filled for over 25 years. She was always available to open the building for individuals and for all city activities, and ring the old church bell to enhance Parowan's special occasions --- even at midnight on New Year's Eve! Barbara educated hundreds of Iron County school children and tourists about our local pioneer history. She also faithfully served in the Daughters of Utah Pioneers for many years. Her genealogy books were appreciated by everyone. Another passion was the Iron County Fair; she entered many items every fall.
In her honor a group of her great-grandchildren gathered in the Old Rock Church and rang the bell following her funeral services on Aug. 1. Whenever that bell rings it will continue to be a reminder of Barbara Burt - who spent her entire life making Parowan shine.
